What exactly is the post-recession lifestyle? I’m not quite sure, but according to a story in the February issue of the magazine industry bible Folio, adventure travel publishers may soon be marketing it to all of us. That’s just one revelation in Jeff Bercovici’s piece about the depressed state of adventure travel magazines. Among other tidbits: Men’s Journal readers go gaga for stories with headlines promising “hideaways” or “secret” vacation spots, and women most often make travel decisions. “Magazines such as Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler and Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel speak predominantly to women—who actually book 65 percent of adventure-travel trips,” Bercovici writes.
