imageWe recently blogged about urban running tours that allow devoted runners to take in some sights while getting their daily exercise fix. Now, an increasing number of travel agencies are promoting marathon packages—to destinations all over the world, writes Andy Riga in The Montreal Gazette. Want to run the Taj Mahal Marathon? Or the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon? Somewhere, according to Riga, there is a package tour that will get you there—though don’t expect they’ll guarantee a personal best time.

The story offers a run-down of popular Web sites, travel agencies and forums to talk marathons with runners around the world. The most intriguing package tour on offer has got to be the Great Wall of China Marathon, which comes with an intriguing warning.

The Wonder of the World “is not flat and has non-runnable sections and even tall steps to overcome. This is a race of beauty and enjoyment, not necessarily one to set a personal record on.”

Sounds like my kind of marathon.
