It’s been nearly a year since we noted the coming Myrtle Beach Hard Rock amusement park, and particularly its centerpiece roller coaster honoring Led Zeppelin. If he were dead, I wrote back then, Jimmy Page would be rolling over in his grave. Well, Jimmy Page is still with us, and the truth is, he not only picked out the song that plays on the ride, “Whole Lotta Love,” but he’s billed as being instrumental in the ride’s creation. (All that while also apparently gathering quite a collection of Pre-Raphaelite art.)

The park opens April 15—it will be fully operational May 9—and Hard Rock is auctioning off more than a dozen tickets for the first ride, with proceeds benefiting charity.

The Charlotte Observer offers a fine overview of the park’s attractions, including the Zeppelin coaster, whose track “runs close to three-fourths of a mile with six inversions and a 120-foot loop.”

According to Myrtle Beach Online, the Eagles and Moody Blues, which both have songs featured on rides, will play at grand opening festivities June 2 and 3.

Which Eagles song is featured?

“Life in the Fast Lane,” of course.
