Innuendo and the City

Sunday’s New York Times arrived with another travel edition of T Style Magazine inside, and it’s mostly what you’d expect from a style/travel magazine: it’s full of stories by and about celebrities and celebrated writers. I haven’t had a chance to read much of it yet, but I did notice a secondary theme: sex. Or maybe it’s just travel writing that would really entertain a teenage boy.
For instance, there’s the story by Carrie Fisher about her trip with her entourage and fellow celeb, Meg Ryan, to Dildo, Newfoundland. ( “Unusual, you say? Well, yes, I would have to agree with you, but it is by no means the only village with a strange name,” Fisher writes. “It’s just across the bay from Spread Eagle.”). Then there’s novelist Heidi Julavits’s story about visiting a hot springs for nudists. Then there’s a short piece about the popularity of Tallinn, Estonia as a hot spot for bachelor and bachelorette parties.
Several other stories look quite substantial in comparison, including Paul Tough’s story about tourism in Kabul, Afghanistan and Mark Jolly’s visit to Patagonia.
