RV Industry on ‘RV’ the Movie: Show Us the Money!

Yup. Coming to theaters later this month is the movie “RV,” in which a father played by Robin Williams takes the family on a road trip to Colorado in a big, lane-spanning recreational vehicle. Could be funny, could be awful. But the RV industry is understandably delighted.

Take this excerpt of a press release sent out today: “National motorhome rental companies such as El Monte RV are anticipating a boon in RV travel interest when ‘RV,’ the new movie starring Robin Williams premieres at the end of this month… As experienced by the wine tour industry in California when the acclaimed movie ‘Sideways’ was released, tourists often want to replicate the same journeys as what they see on the big screen. El Monte RV is expecting the same will hold true for when ‘RV’ hits movie theaters this spring.”

imageLet’s just hope nobody is inpsired by “Sideways” and “RV.” Can you imagine, to convince your fiancée that your broken nose was not caused by an angry motorcyle-riding, wine-pouring woman beating you with her helmet, having to slam your giant rental RV into a tree? Not fun.

If the industry is right and there’s a surge in first-time RV rentals inspired by Robin Williams, be afraid on America’s highways this summer. Be very afraid.
