imageA trailer for the new horror film “Turistas,” in which bad stuff happens to tourists in Brazil, states, “In a country where anything goes ... anything can happen.” Now we just assumed that anything goes in Brazil. After all, it’s in South America. But it turns out that anything does not go in the country. And some Brazilians aren’t too happy about the whole thing. In response to the trailer for the film, which opens in U.S. theaters today, Miguel Jerónimo of New York’s Brazilian tourism office declares in New York magazine: “It’s not whatever goes in our country!” (See the short sidebar next to the magazine’s film review.) Geez. Next Brazilian officials are going to insist that Rio de Janeiro is not inhabited by monkeys.
