Transit Strike Hits New York. (Insert Whistle Here.) “Taxi!”

The largest public transportation system in the U.S. came to a grinding halt today as New York transit workers went on strike. CNN, among many others, has the details. Erik Olsen at Gadling is in the thick of it. He walked to work in NYC this morning, witnessing the strike’s effects first-hand, ruminating on the unexpected encounters that could result. “[I]t is funny to see cabs packed with people, most of whom don’t know each other and must ride together for potentially long stretches,” he writes. “I’d love to hear some of the conversations that go on…most of them probably complaining, but I’ll bet some dates are made, romances ignited, perhaps a few fights.”
