What We Loved This Week: Ayaz Nanji and Eating in San Francisco

We spent Thursday evening out in New York City with fellow Travel Channel staffers to say goodbye to our friend and colleague, Ayaz Nanji. As senior director of Interactive, Ayaz oversaw the company’s digital operations, including World Hum. This site wouldn’t exist without serious support, and Ayaz was as smart, thoughtful and supportive a boss as we could hope for. He also happens to be a hardcore traveler—recent trips have included weeks in Tunisia and Uzbekistan. He’s leaving Travel Channel to embark on a ‘round-the-world trip, and we wish him all the best. He’ll be sorely missed.

I loved all the great meals I ate during my few days in the Bay Area last weekend—it seems to be hard to go wrong in that part of the world—and, in particular, I enjoyed my first-ever Puerto Rican food, at Sol Food in San Rafael.

Beatles cartoons. I got my hands on a bootleg DVD box set of the entire series, which I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I’d forgotten many of the episodes involved The Beatles traveling to different countries (Japan, Ireland, France, etc.). Every episode ends with a Beatles song. The animation is beyond bad. And none of the actual Beatles voiced their parts (John and George have American accents!). Still, it’s cheesy-good fun. And I love the “Tomorrow Never Knows” episode:
