The Las Vegas Mob Bus Tour: The Sights Aren’t Spectacular, But the Stories Are

imageWho knows what mobsters like Tony “the Ant” Spilotro really would have thought of a bus tour of Las Vegas mob history, but Robert Allen, the founder of the tour, has a pretty good idea. “I can only do this tour,” he told the Los Angeles Times, “because Tony Spilotro’s dead.”

So for $56.25 and a 2 1/2 hour time investment, you can listen to mob stories and see some of the places Spilotro, Frank “King Rat” Cullotta and others ate, hung out and, oh yeah, whacked people. Still, Allen says he has his limits.

“I try to do it tactfully and with taste, as much as you can with a mob tour,” Allen said. “You can say someone cut off someone’s head with a machete, but we prefer to say decapitated.”

Ah, so much more palatable.

Soon Allen’s bus tour should have some competition. As we noted, Las Vegas has a city-sponsored mob museum in the works, and it’s expected to cover much of the same ground. (via Daily Travel & Deal Blog)

Ahhh…Glorification of crime. Well, you can still say crime pays, at least after you’re dead. You can still have a tour named after you….
