The Long Descent: US Airways to Charge $2 for Soft Drinks

Clearly, nothing is sacred. US Airways has become the first airline to announce it will charge for non-alcoholic drinks. What’s more, apparently inspired by American Airlines, both US Airways and United announced they’ll start charging $15 for the first checked bag.

Dear Airline Companies,
Please start charging the first class and business class passengers, the people WHO CAN AFFORD IT, these extreme prices for basic amenities.

The days of enjoying my flight as well as the destination are gone. Not only have airlines eliminated ammenities, they seem to have hired the most unhappy and lazy attendants. It is understandable that airlines are trying to make money to survive. I understand current cutbacks as a result of rising fuel prices however, the airlines have been eliminating ammenities for a long time. It is true that reasonable flights do exist-but beware-as a consumer as cheap as the flight is, you will be treated as such!

When US Air acquired PSA in 1987- I believe there was a HUGE, ongoing controversy over whether or not to allow passengers to keep the ENTIRE can of soda (PSA policy)or just the soda contained within the plastic cup (US Air) US Air has been OBSESSED with the price of Soda for OVER 20 YEARS. What’s a can of soda cost-in bulk-50 cents?
Possibly US Air needs to bring in some NEW IDEAS regarding their overhead- like the cost of FUEL.
