China’s Air Pollution Goes Global
Talk about a shrinking planet. “On some days,” reports the Wall Street Journal, “almost a third of the air over Los Angeles and San Francisco can be traced directly to Asia.”
Just another reason on the (very short) list of why living in the Midwest ain’t so bad.
LA and SF have sun, surf, and warm temps, but we’ve got some fresh air...unless you count when the farmers are plowing, or spraying pesticides from helicopters, or when you drive by an ethanol plant...or...or....BUT at least we’re not sucking on China’s exhaust.
I just got back from China, and the “vaporous layer cake of pollutants,” as the WSJ perfectly labels the smog, was inescapable. Ironically, my four friends couldn’t wait to breathe their Los Angeles air again...this study will make them rethink that for sure.
We also couldn’t stop talking about how Beijing’s air quality will affect next year’s summer Olympians.
