Man Downs Liter of Vodka to Avoid Giving it up at Airport Security Checkpoint

imageA 64-year-old man was given two choices by security at the Nuremberg, Germany airport: Dump his liter of vodka or pay to have it checked as luggage. He went with a third option: Chug it like a Sig Ep pledge. “The passenger was unable to stand or function and a doctor was called to the scene,” according to Spiegel Online. The not-too-surprising diagnosis: alcohol poisoning. The unnamed passenger was admitted to a Nuremberg hospital and is expected to be home in time for Christmas. I think I know what gift he’d like to find under his tree this year.

More vodka? A new liver? Or both?

By Eva Holland  on  12.13.07  at  08:33 AM

Well, I’ve gotta believe he wants more vodka. But he probably needs a new liver.

By  on  12.13.07  at  08:42 AM

What does he want?  A small bottle of dry vermouth and a jar of olives.  Oh, and a box of those fancy toothpicks shaped like little swords.

So in keeping his $20 bottle of vodka, he acquired several days without pay in the hospital, seriously threatened his health, perhaps acquired a hosital bill, and missed his flight.  And they say alcohol is glamourous.  Sounds pretty childish to me.  I understand that in the states confisgated items are auctioned off and the proceeds are given away in some way I can’t remember but didn’t find objectable.  I’m happy to see airport secuirty doing its (thankless) job.  Notice the absence of 9-11 type attracks since these precaustions have been put in place.  jo

64 is awfully old to be acting so childish.

Funny, very funny, but of course tragic at the same time… I do not with to promote alcohol, but the man did the right thing.
