R.I.P. Bookstore Tourism?

Larry Portzline has shut down Bookstore Tourism indefinitely. “Unfortunately, despite a great deal of excitement and interest from supporters, the necessary funding was scarce,” he writes on his blog. “So, after five years of working on Bookstore Tourism without making a penny (and, in fact, virtually driving myself into bankruptcy), I had to make a very tough decision and pull the plug on the entire project.” He adds: “It may be permanent. I’m simply not sure.”

Sad news. Larry plans to devote this year to writing, with hopes that everyone who supported his idea in the past will continue to take “bookstore road trips” and help keep Bookstore Tourism alive. We do, too.

That ain’t right. Bookstore Tourism was ... and is… such a great idea! All my extra resources are going to the poor buggered-by-their-own-Chancellor NYC Public Schools this season, so I can’t put my money where my mouth is when i say, Keep hitting the bookstores, Larry, because we love what you do!
