Theme Parks Bound for Mumbai and Dubai

imageHere at the Planet Theme Park desk, it’s hard to keep up with all the projects in the works, but we try. In the latest news, a $100 million Bollywood theme park is planned for the Indian city of Mumbai—or Bombay if you’re a certain UK newspaper apparently still in denial about that whole name change thing that was so 1995.

Rides, movie sets and other attractions are planned for the park, which is due to open in 2008.

Meanwhile, Universal plans to build a giant theme park in Dubai, which, from everything we’ve read, sounds like one big theme park already. Plans are in the works to construct the park, which will be similar to Universal Studios parks in California and Florida, in an area called Dubailand. Yes, Dubailand. What, exactly, is that?

Reports the AP: “Dubailand itself is being developed as an Orlando-style entertainment zone with several other amusement parks, offices and housing—including what is described as the world’s first apartment building that rotates on its axis.”

In other words, they’re building a theme park inside a theme park inside a theme park.
