Graffiti blurs the boundaries between the natural and the artificial in this scene in Beco do Batman. The image of the tree trunk and the red lettering is by an artist known as
Binho.

Great pictures. I live in São Paulo. One of my favorite pieces appears all over the city along key avenues: a large stern block-like face, accompanied by the sentence: “Você é um escravo do trânsito.” [You are a slave to traffic.] I always chuckle when I see it because it captures one of the inevitabilities of living here.

These are the things I notice when I travel. I haven’t been to South America yet so thank you for bringing street-level art to those of us who long to visit but haven’t yet. I just loved these shots. My favorite artist: Onesto
Keep snapping and keeping the underground art scene alive!

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments! I’m glad to see that others find this street art to be as beautiful as I do.
Amy: I’m happy to tell you how I got in touch with the artists. A good place to start is the Choque Cultural gallery: http://www.choquecultural.com.br/
