All Hail ‘The Burrito King of Argentina’

In our ongoing quest to chronicle the spread of Mexican food —Tex-Mex, Cal-Mex, you name it—around the globe, we note the rise of the humble burrito in Buenos Aires. At The California Burrito Company, which was co-founded by a 24-year-old expat from California, eating instructions are posted on the wall: “Pull back the foil wrap as you consume the burrito.” There’s even talk of expanding to Montevideo.

Yikes- Foil wrapped Burritos??!! Last time I was in BA I had the worst Mexican food ever. They used parsley for cilantro and the guacamole was horrible. They should just stick to steaks down there. ilie in Baja= I know MExican food. :)

I know for a fact your local Baja fare blows away most of what you find here in California. But just because a burrito is wrapped in foil, doesn’t mean it’s bad. Case in point: San Francisco Mission District burritos. Do you dare dis them?

You had to bring up the burritos in the Mission, didn’t you TambourineMan? I’ll take those with foil wrapped, Saran wrapped, wrapped in wallpaper, whatever. Anything beats what I can get here in D.C. Can’t wait to get to SF again.

I could have used those instructions when I was in the Mission! Where I come from, we eat burritos with a knife and fork, and I spent a good ten minutes sitting in Taqueria Can-Cun staring at the foil wrapper and wondering what to do or where to start…
