Q&A with David Farley: The Restless Legs Reading Series
World Hum: How’d this come about? David Farley: The idea of it actually began four years ago. One of my stories was included in Travelers’ Tales annual “Best of” anthology and I organized a reading in New York with the other two local contributors, Stephanie Elizondo Griest and Richard Goodman. We ended up hanging out a fair amount after that and cooked up the idea of starting a travel-writing reading series. It never really worked out because we all had our own things going on, but I kept it in the back of my head and now that I’m not going to Italy for long periods of time I can finally get it going. So, the Restless Legs reading series was born. This is just the beginning of some bigger travel-writing-themed plans I have for New York. How often do you plan to have readings? Once a month would be ideal, but for now they’re going to be once every other month. Any specific plans for future readings, beyond the July date? One idea I’ve had—with World Hum’s permission and participation, of course—would be a World-Hum-themed reading. Absolutely. Let’s plan that. By the way, great name for the series. Just how restless are your legs? Before I moved in to my current apartment in the West Village four years ago, I counted the amount of residences I had in the previous 10 years—which consisted of various places in the United States and Europe—and I realized that over those 10 years I had moved once every six months. So, yeah, they’re pretty restless. Categories: Weblog • Life of a Travel Writer • New York
