Where in the World Are You, Jeremy David?
World Hum: Where in the world are you? A hot hostel in Barcelona, Spain. It’s a cool spot close to the train station with awesome staff, and walking distance to a metro so I can check out La Rambla! What are you doing there? I had this crazy idea for a Web site where I let people tell me where to go and what to do while I backpack around Europe, Australia and New Zealand. So far, I’ve been sent to La Tomatina—the giant Tomato festival in Buñol, Spain—and several places along the way. Now I’m just waiting for suggestions of things to do while I’m here. What do you see around you? Two people booking hostels on computers, a bright yellow wall, a piano and a bunch of people watching “The Fifth Element” in Spanish. Got a pic?
What did you have for dinner last night, and where? I made tortellini with red peppers and tomato sauce. It’s always cheap and fun to meet up with people in your hostel and make communal food. Just be sure to wash your dishes. One of the people helping cook talked about how sick he got from the last batch of pasta he made. Ha ha, not the kind of thing you tell someone while you’re cooking their food. What music are you listening to these days? Funny you should ask. I have a thing for 80s music, and so does Spain. They seem to play an eclectic mix of chart toppers from North America, and I have no complaints. Well, until they blast Celine Dion. What are you reading? Good thing you can’t see my face. I picked up a copy of H-PO 7 (the 7th Harry Potter… I’m probably the only person in the world to call it H-PO). Anyway. I’m hoping to pick up a real book soon. What did you experience in the last 24 hours that you’d recommend? When taking a train, bring food with you. I made several sandwiches and brought a big bottle of water. It was a life and wallet saver. What did I experience in the last 24 hours that I wouldn’t recommend? When you cancel your reservation at a hostel and write down the address of your new one, make sure you have the right address. It’s embarrassing to take a subway to the wrong hostel, have the staff look in all their books for your reservation and then realize that you canceled it in lieu of another hostel. Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend that. Where in the world are you headed next? I actually have no idea. People haven’t voted yet. Any ideas?
