10 Super Bowl-Worthy Watering Holes

The editor of epicurious.com suggests 10 places around the country—from The Waterfront Café in Boston to Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood—to eat and drink in style Sunday while watching the big game. For those who like their football with Mexican food and tequila, Tanya Steel suggests Spitfire in Seattle: “Fish tacos, chorizo-and-cheese-stuffed mushrooms and roasted pork tamales are just a few of the offerings—complemented by 18 types of margaritas.” I’ll have the Conmemorativo Cadillac.

From the LATimes, the odds on which song Tom Petty will open the half-time show with:
“Free Fallin’ ” (3-1), “The Waiting” (10-1), “American Girl” (7-4), “Running Down a Dream” (11-10), “Learning to Fly” (6-1), “I Need to Know” (10-1), “Don’t Do Me Like That” (16-1), “Even the Losers” (5-2), “You Got Lucky” (25-1).

Interesting.
My money’s on “Running Down a Dream” as the opener or closer.

I’m predicting Running Down a Dream will be the closer. I just bet $20 on American Girl to open.

Running Down a Dream seems the best pick, and therefore Tom’s gonna change it up. I’ll take a relative longshot: The Waiting.
“Baby don’t it feel like heaven right now, don’t it feel like something from a dream….”

You guys don’t think “You don’t know how it feels” has a shot? I’m dating myself here, but boy, some good memories from junior high dances just after that song came out. The teachers always made the DJ cut the sound on the line “let’s roll another joint”, which naturally resulted in 300 13-year-olds shouting it out instead. Silly teachers.

Eva, you may be interested in this prop wager from bodoglife.com:

Wow, TambourineMan, you managed to call the opener and the closer!
The Globe and Mail has a harsh review of Tom Petty’s 15 minutes: “This year, the spotlight was on the veteran 1980s-era rocker Petty, who did not fail to underwhelm.”

This was only my 2nd-ever SuperBowl viewing, the other was in 2002. I don’t know much about the NFL, but I gather that means I’ve seen a couple of good ones?

Won $20 on American Girl. Won another $20 on the Giants.
Andrew Ryan of the Globe & Mail is a dick. Tom rocked.
Eli, MVP? Criminal. The NYG defense won that game.

Good calls all around, TambourineMan. I’m with you: Tom rocked. A fine performance. The Giants didn’t do too bad of a job, either.
I think you caught a good game, Eva. And I’m not even much of a football fan, either.
