Publicity still from “Angels & Demons” (via IGN)

If you’re not interested in Dan Brown or the film adaptation of his hit novel, “Angels & Demons,” you may want to avoid the travel pages for the next few days—I haven’t seen travel-movie-mania on this scale since last year’s Sex and the City movie transfixed shoe-loving travel writers everywhere.

If, however, you’re keen to explore “Dan Brown’s Rome,” read on for the best of the near-ubiquitous coverage.

Oh, and as for the movie itself? Slate’s Dana Stevens is underwhelmed: “Hanks and [co-star Ayelet] Zurer race around Rome having impenetrable conversations in front of world-historical art treasures. Take my advice and stop trying to keep up with their investigation; just let the words pentagram and apse and camerlengo wash over you pleasantly as you ogle the Bernini statues and coffered ceilings.”

“Angels & Demons” hits theaters today.

I always love movie-related travel and at Dream of Italy we couldn’t help but repost our article (based on the Angels & Demons book) by Susan Sanders, who wrote a book on seeing Rome through Angels & Demons. It is a self-guided tour through Rome:

I felt like grabbing Hanks’ neck and shaking him hard to make him stop yapping.  I think maybe you could understand it better by watching it again a couple of times. Only problem is, it’s not good enough to watch again. :)

I read the books but have yet to see the movies.  I’ll wait until Angels and Demons comes on video.  I’m sure travel to Rome will skyrocket.  It makes for great travel writing.

The Da Vinci Code movie did little justice to the book, and I imagine this movie will be much the same.
