I experience this DAILY on my train commute to Union Station in DC. Most doors to the station from the trains are barred, gates are locked, and police officers with dogs direct passengers the long way around, and against traffic to the WOMEN’S bathroom. The mens room is en route to the subway. Grrr! I’m a 49 year old overweight white woman in a business suit with a briefcase. Do I really look like a security risk? Comparitivy, merely waiting seems much more humane and respectful. Also, it seems to me that it violates the fire code to block doors with gates.
