Are New York’s Skyscrapers Outdated?

That’s the argument this Der Spiegel piece makes, pondering the architectural clash of civilizations between East and West. I, for one, can live without a Burj Dubai in the middle of Manhattan.

This is interesting. For the last few years, I’ve noticed that new skyscrapers, even in Manhattan, don’t remind me of New York anymore. They remind me (then) Hong Kong or (now) Dubai. I mean, look at the Hearst Building and tell me it “looks”  Manhattan. It doesn’t. It looks Hong Kong.
