There’s been a couple minutes’ lull in the gunfire around here, which has allowed us the luxury of some idle speculation. Perhaps you could settle the question for us, Mr Maher. Is it true what they say, that New Yorkers are perfectly safe unless you make eye contact with them?
Truth to tell, the so-called drug war is being played out in newspapers. Those of us who actually live in Tijuana never experience the violence that the mass media report. One of us was in San Francisco recently and was asked if he isn’t afraid of the violence. “Why, of course,” he said, “I have to pass through Los Angeles in order to get home.”
