California’s Proposition 8 Fallout: Boycott Utah?
Travel Blog • Jim Benning • 12.01.08 | 1:18 PM ET
Supporters of gay marriage—angered by reports that members of the Mormon Church donated millions of dollars to back Proposition 8 on California’s November ballot—are calling for a boycott of travel to Utah, including the Sundance Film Festival.

Sweet. Does this mean I’ll have Arches NP, Bryce, Canyonlands, etc, to myself?
Seriously. Come on now, Prop 8 retaliators. Not everynoe in Utah is an LDS nut.

I think maybe the Prop 8 protestors are just a wee bit out of control. I mean, Bill Marriott says that neither he nor Marriott has contributed to LDS specifically for Porp 8, but they’re still calling for a Marriott boycott just because Bill Marriott is a leader of teh Mormon Chruch in Washington.
Mad as heck! 12.04.08 | 6:20 PM ET
I am all for the Boycotts! Hit them where it hurts!!! Like Hoehn Motors in Carlsbad, CA,
the Manchester Grand by Hyatt in downtown San Diego,
the Manchester Hyatt in Del Mar, CA
and A-1 Self Storage in San Diego.
Yes, the state of Utah too.
Mormons make up around 60% of the state’s population. Let’s also Boycott Catholics
or those businesses owned by the hateful Catholics
and/or those owned or run by the vile Mormans.
I have removed several people from my card lists.
I’m not buy their kid’s cookies, wrapping paper, etc…
I am also not going to celebrate Christmas.
Not spending a dime on decorations, gifts etc…
I have had it!!! I am Mad as Heck!

Here is my notifcation to Marriott: Dear Marriott: Please cancel my Marriott Rewards membership. I will never need it because I would rather spend the night sleeping in the gutter instead of staying at any Hotel whose Chairman and CEO, J. W. Marriott, supports Proposition 8 in California. Fortunately, I have lots of other hotels to choose from and I intend to patronize them. In addition, I can promise you that I will NEVER stay at a Marriott and I will NEVER do any business in a Marriott, either, until your Chairman and CEO, J.W. Marriott, makes a pubic stance against Proposition 8 and contributes the same amount to its passage as he already contributes to the Mormon church and its hateful prostlytizing. I hope I am clear about how I feel and I hope you understand that your owner’s financial support of his church is what helped pass Proposition 8 and it will cost his business.

Has it been determined that the LDS financed anti proprosition 8 actions or are we jumping to convict the LDS? I would imagine that the average person isn’t particularly concerned with what happens in California.

I think we have the right To br marriaed and on one should be able to tell us we can’t

I can’t believe the folks who are getting all worked up and claiming “victimhood” now that they are getting boycotted: http://urbzen.com/2008/12/15/tacos-with-a-side-of-bigotry/
You voted your conscience on Nov. 4, and now your customers are voting theirs.

Well considering that only 5% of the population is gay, prop 8 came close for the gays with 52% in favor of traditional marriage and only 48 against. They seem to have made quite a bit of progress from the initial bill that went down by 61% against gay marriage.
Let the vote occur again (like today) and that first 61% against gay marriage may well be eclipsed.
Obviously my vote changes to support traditional marriage from here on out…my first vote was against gay marriage the second vote was for it..And I’ll bet you anything that I’m not the lone ranger.
I don’t like traffic being stopped by a group of inconsiderate clowns and would bet dollars to doughnuts that they had no permit to boycott that restaurant, they should have been arrested.
Any gains previously made in the public eye is gone for me at least.
Whoever the imbecile is that is running the campaign for gays is doing them irreparable harm.
Employers are dying to lighten their books…that sick out was pure genius…give the employer cause to replace you with a lower payed employee…brilliant!!!
Stopping traffic when we need to get home or to work? Stellar!
I really regret voting no on prop 8, that will never happen again.

Get these existing gay marriages annulled per P8 as a Christmas gift to the gay community in CA. Also if Utah wins it’s bowl game they can play FL in the Rose Bowl. We just recall the mayor and the city council since they were no on P8.

this is the most ridiculous thing i ever heard! Not all of Utah is Mormon and not all Mormons live in utah. boycott all states where Mormons live - i think that might be everywhere - good luck with that. seriously people - boycotting Utah is not going to change anyones minds about gay marriage.

Oh gasp!
No more holier-than-thou liberal nuts coming to our state? Your extreme attitudes make you no different from the conservative people you slander. That fact of the matter is, no one here really cares what you think. If I had a business that was supported by tourism, I’d rather go bankrupt than see the likes of you!

Boycott Utah and Marritot. Those in Utah who say that the mormons are a small percentage, should help to push them out of the state. If you are going to host such evil religious fanatics you have to deal with the consequences. Mormons are the height of hypocrites and homophobics. They are no different than the Catholics during the inquisition. Which incedently with the popes recent message shows that these people (Catholics and Mormons) are hate mongers. If they are allowed any amount of political control they would commit all types of atrocities in the name of “God”. Apart of the old addage “when you mix religion and politics you get fanatics”, look at the militant Muslims, Iran, etc. Their treatment of women, gays, etc. We do not want to go back to the dark ages. These religious fanatics need to be taught a lesson NOW. Do not mess with our private lives. If you want to beat each other with your mad rituals fine, but leave us decent clear headed folk out of it.
Boycott Utah now, let the rest know that if you support these people you will be isolated.

OK, enough of Utah. Let’s get this boycott in full swing and boycott California. More Californians are responsible for the Prop 8 result than the residents of Utah. Why is Cali coming out as innocent victims in this while Utah becomes a pariah. Gimme a break!

This is on the same topic. It’s been a controversial issue and there are a lot of stories out there. So many people have been impacted.
