After 39 years of counting down the hits, the omnipresent radio host is leaving the airwaves. I’ve never spent much time listening to commercial pop radio when I’m at home, but I do know one thing: Weekend road trips will never sound quite the same.

I will miss that poor, lovelorn chap in some distant land, who caught sight of an American girl one day in a European airport, got her to smile at him, and, in the space of ten minutes, fell in love forever with her:  the girl heaven intended to be his soul mate.

He doesn’t know her name, Casey, or even which state she lives in.  But he knows, Casey, that if you’d only play that one special song, she would hear it and understand how he feels.

And so, Casey, this Long Distance Dedication:  “Copacabana,” by Barry Manilow.

Inge, sweet Inge—at long last.  I think of you and our magic moment, and all I can say is…

“Her name was Lola; She was a showgirl….”

(Thank you, Casey.  I’ll keep my feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.)

Wait a minute. Casey is signing off and no one has posted the Snuggles rant in tribute?

TambourineMan - Hadn’t heard that before. Thanks! (And he makes a good point, doesn’t he?)

You’re welcome. That’s a classic. So many good lines. One of my favorites:
“I also wanna know what happened to the pictures I was supposed to see this week!”

Probably a good time to dust off that off-air clip of Kasem that was leaked to Howard Stern: always good for a laugh.
