The mother of slain world traveler and freelance photojournalist Dan Eldon, who was killed in Mogadishu in 1993, has hand-picked the Harry Potter actor to play her son in an upcoming biopic.
According to CBC News, Dan Eldon was raised in Kenya and “already a world traveller by age 20.” He was working as a freelance photographer on assignment for Reuters in Somalia when he and three other journalists were beaten and stoned to death by a mob.
Radcliffe beat out the likes of Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, Ryan Philippe and Joaquin Phoenix to land the role. Kathy Eldon found Radcliffe to be, in her words, “a global soul” who is “hasn’t been corrupted by Hollywood.”
