Longreads Launches Travelreads

It’s always nice to see long-form travel writing get some love on the manic, impatient, impulsive internets.

Today, Longreads, the website that curates longer stories with excerpts and links, launched a travel section.

Among the stories now featured are a Susan Orlean piece on Bangkok’s Khao San Road, an Ernest Hemingway dispatch from the Spanish Civil War and a John Jeremiah Sullivan article about Disney World. A couple of World Hum pieces are in the mix, too.

Jodi Ettenberg of Legal Nomads is contributing her curatorial powers to the operation. Readers can suggest stories to include via Twitter, posting links with the hashtag #travelreads. The site defines a “longread” as something typically more than 1,500 words.

I had never heard of this blog till doing research on the the very top travel blogs, and have to say was curious as to what makes up a great travel blog, as I am newly getting into the online travel business. After seeing your blog here, I can only say how depressed I am. It is so thorough and the articles so above anything else I have seen on the web I am not sure how one can top it.

Staying on point of your article title and subject matter I am delighted to see that there can be room for longer travel articles. The 2 short paragraph posts only go so far. I have traveled around the world and would love to someday share more about these adventures; They qualify more as “short story” than they would short paragraphs, yet not long enough for a full feature novel. Great blog guys and gals!  Regards… Roman T.
