Tourism and other forms of revenue are dropping off in Nevada and so the state’s brothels are offering to help out by paying their fair share of taxes, the New York Times reports. The state is not jumping to accept. Over at “The New Republic,” Michelle Cottle read the story and was intrigued to note that while prostitution is legal in some Nevada counties, “no county allows brothels to have men who sell sexual services.” She calls this discrimination and a lost business opportunity.

Prudes! Prudes! Take the damned money and put it toward social services. Geez. Stuff like this drives me nutso. They need to stop acting like it’s dirty money—from what I’ve read of and seen of what goes on in the brothels (only in documentaries and the like people, calm down), it’s all consenting adults. If they can tax people for smoking cigarettes, drinking booze, and other fun bits, they shouldn’t feel funny about gathering taxes for, well, other fun. Hell, I say we just legalize prostitution around the U.S., tax it, and call it a day.
