The ‘On the Road’ Movie: It’s Really Happening, and Soon

When a couple of major casting decisions for the long-awaited flick were announced this spring, I remained skeptical about the project hitting theaters anytime soon. Turns out I should have been more optimistic: “On the Road” is filming now, in locations as far-flung as Montreal, New Orleans, San Francisco and New Mexico. Get the Big Picture’s Colin Boyd thinks it could be ready for Sundance 2011.
A number of heavyweights have joined the cast in supporting roles: Amy Adams, Viggo Mortenson, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Steve Buscemi and Terrence Howard will all make appearances. I’ll admit, I’m getting excited for this one.

What’s the big letdown, Megan? It looks pretty good to me. Amy Adams, great. Viggo Mortenson, awesome. Steve Buscemi, ten kinds of awesome.

Something really annoys me about Amy Adams…and Dunst and Stewart are the other two who make me kind of want to punch someone. Maybe their roles will be minor enough to not matter, though. It’ll certainly be interesting! :)

Heh. Fair enough. From what I remember about the book, I think it’s a safe bet that most of the female roles are pretty minor…

It looks as though we’re in for a little beat revival in film. Cue the “beat” trend stories. “Howl,” starring James Franco as Allen Ginsberg, is due out this fall:

I’m excited. The female roles aren’t as big as the male leads but they are just as if not more interesting. Kristen’s character is a young wanderer, the only woman Dean loves, and a sometimes prostitute. Kirsten is a career woman who marries Dean but finds out she can’t make him stay home. Amy’s character is a crazy heroin addict in the Louisiana bayou. All interesting and a great cast so far.
