Queen Mary 2, Meet Your Namesake

The Queen Mary 2 could use some good press after angry passengers threatened to stage a sit-in recently like anti-war protesters in the ‘60s. A little could come Feb. 23, when the Queen Mary 2 is scheduled to sail into the Port of Long Beach near Los Angeles and “greet” the original Queen Mary for the first time with a whistle salute. The event is being billed as “A Royal Rendezvous.” A Web site has details.

When the Qm2 sails into Long Beach Harbor it will be an historical event. Almost like 1967. The two ships, sisters, cousins, or off spring will bring cheers from many folks waiting anxiously to view.  Those who will be boarding in San Pedro on February 22nd are in for another historical event. They will experience a taste of real luxury for four days.  The QM2 will set her destination to Ensenada, Mexico. Then return on Saturday, saluting the stationery QM again.  What an event!

Further to the previous bad press suffered by Cunard, I am now informed that my 25th Wedding Anniversary cruise from Rio to New York has had 2 Ports of Call cancelled. Cunard have arranged an additional call in St Thomas….so in effect this has become a Caribean Cruise.
Cunards insulting offer of compensation is $50 each !!
Do they never learn ??
