The 69-year-old magazine, which has published many fine foodie travel stories over the years, will be ceasing publication along with several other magazines cut this week at Conde Nast. Here’s just one travel classic from the Gourmet archives, David Foster Wallace’s Consider the Lobster.

things that take effort, experience and thought are and probably should be more expensive.
conde nast should have cut any number of things in order to keep gourmet.
like getting to a truly wild place in the natural world, reading a classic novel in its orginal
language, appreciating abstract art for its heroic concepts, seeing
romulo yanes’ heartfelt and supremely designed photography in gourmet,
knowing the food was only part of what he was going for was a reinforcing caress
i looked forward to each month. paying with intellect and/or money, like working for obama, is harder than watching fox or yelling insults. reading books and magazines like gourmet are important for those of us who are curious seekers of information. i, we, need to work harder when great and beautiful things are taken from us. who among you is up for starting something new and intelligent? let me know.
