All 155 people on board survived. The Airbus 320 apparently had just taken off from LaGuardia when it hit one or more birds, causing engine trouble. A dramatic rescue ensued. Reports the AP: “The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows, and rescue crews had opened the door and were pulling passengers in yellow life vests from the plane.”

Amazing evidence of the power of social networking sites like Twitter to give ‘citizen reporters’ the edge when it comes to breaking news.

Pilot of this plane is a real professional. In a matter of minutes he came to a right decision and did water landing flawlessly. Hoorey to the pilot! He is a real man!

They’re calling it ‘the Miracle on the Hudson’. And it is a miracle. Few minutes further off, and some of them would have been goners. All of them survived only because it happened right after takeoff.

Brace for impact: Hudson river landing video
Here is the best video I could find relating to the Hudson river crash of U.S. Airways Flight 1549. This emergency landing was a “miracle.”

This was an amazing rescue, but we have learned that water entered the cabin and filled the hold. I would like to remind travelers who take pets along that pet travel in-cabin is the safest way to go. Putting a pet in the luggage hold is dangerous for a number of reasons. For pet travel advice and to discuss safety issues, I invite you to post comments and questions on my blog: traveldog dot weebly dot com. If you MUST send a large pet by air, please consider KLM 5 Star Pet Transport.

Travel Hum is a great resource and the US Airwars pilot was amazing! We have heard how water filled the hold and came into the cabin itself. I would like to remind travelers that putting a pet in the hold is never very safe. If your pet MUST travel and cannot go in cabin, check out KLM 5 Star Pet Transport or drive. I invite you to post questions and comments about this on my blog traveldog dot weebly dot com.

“We’re gonna be in the Hudson”
Those were the exact words the pilot of the ‘miracle flight’ told air traffic controllers right before ditching the plane in the Hudson River. The flight attendants yelled, “Brace! Brace! Head down!”

The media in today’s world is too quick to call anybody
a hero.
Ditching an airplane in a body of water is not heroic.
It shows a lack of skill.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
At 3100 feet, that aircraft, should have easily landed where it
took off from.

It really is a miricle any time a plane goes down with out anyone getting hurt.
I just saw this and got it pretty quick. Still kinda fun!
