We became fans of Rolf Potts while reading his Vagabonding column at Salon’s now-defunct travel section. His own Web site, RolfPotts.com features links to some of his best writing, as well as thoughts on his Vagabonding philosophy. Rolf believes that keeping up with the demands of an accelerating consumer culture—getting the latest-model SUV, updating the wardrobe with fall fashions, scratching up the corporate ladder—is antithetical to a more deliberate, enriching way of life. Besides, he adds, it cuts into the travel budget.
