Chicago. I’m here through the weekend, and I can feel the sadness in the air about the city losing its bid for the 2016 Olympics. But just remember, Chicagoans, you’ve got plenty to get you through the disappointment. Just one reminder: a classic video I loved this week.

I’ve been glued to Ken Burns’s The National Parks documentary on PBS. What an inspiring and sometimes tragic story.

I loved taking another too-short trip to Toronto. I’ve never really gotten to know the city where I was born, but every time I go I seem to figure out another small piece of the puzzle. This time around? I finally got my bearings on the subway.

I loved Bangladesh’s Sundarbans National Park, the world’s largest mangrove forest, though I only saw a small portion of this wild place known in Bangla as “the beautiful forest.” I was simultaneously chagrined and relieved that I didn’t see the Royal Bengali tigers that roam here, but we did spot their giant paw prints during a trek through the mud. The tiger had apparently stopped by this sweetwater pond recently for a drink. Was he (or she) watching us?
