I loved weather. Call me crazy, but I get tired of all the sunshine and mild temperatures in San Diego. This week, I’ve been enjoying the rain and cold in Washington, D.C. (Yes, I realize I might be the only one.)

Robert Reid
A Bulgarian friend helped me celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall by forwarding a vintage recording of the Hungarian band Trabant delivering the most enigmatic drum solo of all time. See the 1:10 mark of “Eskimo Women Feel Cold.”

Eva Holland
I loved the video we posted earlier this week of the Northern Lights over Norway, in time lapse. Strange and beautiful.

Bob Ecker
A fascinating travel/botanical/historical article in Smithsonian Magazine about the surprising connection between Tahiti and Jamaica. Author Caroline Alexander masterfully intertwines the story of a Captain Bligh (yes, that same Captain Bligh) with that of the plants he brought to Jamaica.

The fog on a cool Virginia morning. I took this shot out of my hotel window Monday with my phone. The Potomac River is somewhere down there.

Pretty picture of a Virginia sunrise. Makes me miss being able to drive to the mountains when I lived in D.C. [or, for that matter, even when I lived in Atlanta]. Chicago, as great as a city as it is, is sadly very isolated in that regard.

Where was that picture taken? Somewhere near Harper’s Ferry? Looks too hilly to be close to DC.

The Northern Lights time lapse video was excellent.  I saw a smaller version of them once while deep in the heart of the Grand Canyon. . . .didn’t seem possible. . . .

If you like cold and wet, now is the time to visit the Great Northwet. . .
