What We Loved This Week: New York City, Alaskan Beer and Comparing Notes with Fellow Travelers

I’ve spent the week hanging out with travelers and travel writers in New York and now St. Louis, and I’ve loved comparing notes on favorite places. I don’t get to do it often enough. It’s good for the traveler’s soul.

I loved heading into the Skagway Pass last weekend for my first-ever cross-country ski race, the Buckwheat Ski Classic. I also loved getting my fix of sweet, sweet Alaskan microbrew at the after-party.

A 28-hour adventure in New York City. The centerpiece: Hearing World Hum contributors Valerie Conners, Alison Stein Wellner and Elisabeth Eaves read from The Best Women’s Travel Writing 2010 at a packed Idlewild books. The glorious spring weather was a nice bonus. Here’s a shot of Union Square I took with my phone:

I haven’t tried any of their year-rounders or seasonals myself, but if you love Alaskan beer, I’ve heard good things about Midnight Sun in Anchorage.
