I visited the Robert Service Cabin in Dawson City, Yukon, last weekend—it’s a two-room log house where Service lived for three years writing poetry, now maintained as part of a National Historic Site—and I loved seeing an enthusiastic performer tell us about the life and work of the “Bard of the Yukon.” Here’s one of the poems I heard during the performance: Goodbye, Little Cabin, a farewell verse Service wrote before leaving Dawson for good in 1912, to serve as a war correspondent in Europe.

Transsiberian. Some fine travel eye-candy as Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley venture west on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Bonus: It’s a surprisingly entertaining thriller. Here’s the trailer:

Seeing these five words pop up on my computer screen: “Your upgrade has been confirmed.” I just booked a cross-country red-eye on United. I hate red-eyes, and I don’t always have luck trying to cash in miles for upgrades because there’s usually more demand for those seats than space available. Now, I might even be able to sleep.

I loved listening to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra play the Magical Music of Disney last night. The show’s theme was “Around the World” and showcased songs I grew up on, inspired by destinations I started dreaming of traveling to at an early age, singing along with lion cubs, crabs and candlesticks. I have to admit I even teared up a bit during an “It’s a Small World” montage number. Here’s “It’s a Small World” from Disneyland Paris.
