Algerian musician Rachid Taha. I discovered him recently on a flight—he was a featured artist on Delta’s in-flight audio entertainment system. He has covered the Clash’s “Rock the Casbah.” Here’s a taste of something perhaps slightly less familiar:

Last weekend, as I was sprawled on the sand beside Lake Michigan, the wind grabbed my bookmark, an old postcard, and carried it halfway down the beach before I caught up to it. When I did, for the first time in years I really looked at it: an ominous castle in sepia tones, two Romanian stamps and a friend’s scrawl, “Hi from Transylvania!” Here’s the front:

The last frontier. I spent the last week on a sponsored trip around interior and south central Alaska, and while it’s tough to pick one standout place or activity—it was an incredible trip all around—I don’t think I’m going to forget seeing the fall color in Denali National Park anytime soon. Here’s a shot I took in Polychrome Pass on the park road:

Has been on vacation this week, and we’re pretty sure he’s been loving it.
