Travel writer Brad Newsham’s philanthropic project to distribute money to needy people around the globe also featured a travel writing component: He launched a story contest and asked for entries. Now, he has narrowed down the submissions to a dozen finalists. He plans to give four writers $1,000 each to give away and invites readers to peruse the 12 stories here and vote for their favorites. Newsham, for those who don’t know him, is the author of the terrific travel memoir, “Take Me With You.”
