New Orleans Tourism Almost Doubled in 2007

imageNew Orleans welcomed 7.1 million visitors last year, compared to 3.7 million in 2006. Both figures fall short of pre-Katrina levels—10.1 million people traveled to the Crescent City in 2004—but the growth is a great sign for one of the most interesting and historic cities in the U.S. Travelers are returning despite, as the AP puts it, “concerns about violent crime, misgivings about having a good time when people are still rebuilding their lives, and misperceptions that parts of the city are still under water.”

You know, a lotta people are visiting the Big Easy just cause they think they should help out. I’ve seen articles (I think there was one a couple of days back in the San Francisco Chronicle) which ask people to take their vacations in New Orleans.

I think people should give New Orleans a shot at visiting. I have been there three times since the hurricane it is not dangerous in the french quarter and the people are extremly nice.

The french quarter the main tourist destination in New Orleans had hardly any damage becuase it was built on a much higher part of the city. If you haven’t been to New Orleans I would suggest you give it a shot and enjoy yourself.

we recently visited new orleans - just before hurricane gustav. The french quarter was beautiful, but much of NO still looked like the day katrina hit - so sad. we did make an effort to go to N.O. to support the economy though, im sure tourism has taken a dip lately and they can use the business. We enjoyed it.
