Richard Holbrooke on Travel: ‘I Think the Ugly American as a Tourist Cliché is Overblown’

Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke sat for a Q&A with Dorinda Elliott in the April issue of Conde Nast Traveler, talking about his own travels and the importance of travel in understanding the world. His favorite trip? “The next one is always the best,” he says. That’s our kind of traveler.

Thanks for highlighting this great interview! I haven’t yet gotten a chance to dig into CNT this month.

Holbrooke is such an inspiring traveler! I loved his “favorite trip” response, too. My answer to that question is always the LAST place I went, not the NEXT place I’m going to. Maybe I should be more of a forward thinker.

(Also, I blogged about the article on The Window Seat - giving credit to World Hum - if you want to check it out.)
