Travel Headline of the Day: ‘Man Arrested For Watching Crap Film on iPhone’

imageToo hilarious to be completely true, unfortunately. A passenger apparently was watching a movie on an iPhone—“I Know What You Did Last Summer”—on an ATA flight to Hawaii. Casey, as the passenger identified himself or herself in a rambling letter to The Consumerist, was using an iPhone in “airplane mode,” a setting that apparently disables all of the device’s wireless capabilities and, thus, adheres to FAA rules against using cell phones in flight. It didn’t matter to the ATA flight attendant, apparently, and a ruckus ensued.

Casey writes:

I paused the movie just as Jennifer love Hewitt was screaming something about “please stop killing my friends” or “what do you want from me”, honestly I am not sure what she was saying because I paused the movie and looked to see what the flight attendant wanted. He said something to the effect of “you can’t use a cell phone in flight”. OK, that makes sense, so I assured him that I had the phone in airplane mode and that all cell, wifi and bluetooth was off.

Still, police allegedly escorted Casey off the plane and questioned him in a waiting area. Soon after, he was released—and embraced by tech-savvy bloggers and grateful headline writers everywhere.
