The ongoing debate about the ethics of publishing stories by writers whose trips have been subsidized by the places they write about – see previous posts here and here – has heated up in recent days. On Friday, Editor and Publisher’s Allan Wolper weighed in with a column calling for more regulation among newspaper editors.

Wolper writes: “One way for travel writers to gain the trust of readers is to treat vacation retreats like movies: Praise the good ones, and indict the ones that don’t perform to standards.” Over at travelwriters.com, there’s an unrelated lengthy discussion going on about the future of press trips. One poster reported that “press trips will soon be a thing of the past,” a sentiment not shared by his peers. As of the time of this post there were 23 entries. Read them all here.
