8,000 Lbs. of Candy Stuck Inside World’s Largest Piņata

For nearly two weeks, a giant, 61-foot-long, rainbow-striped donkey piņata has stoically stood on a corner in South Philadelphia, filled to the brim with candy, waiting for a wrecking ball to smash it open. And yet the event (a really random Carnival Cruise Lines stunt) has been postponed repeatedly, leaving said masses increasingly frustrated, no sugar high in sight.

Some say a technical difficulty is causing the holdup, others the competition for attention with Philly’s World Series win. And then there are the Negative Nellies, who claim that maybe, just maybe, dropping 8,000 lbs. of candy on a large crowd of spectators below and then having them scramble for it might just be a little bit ... dangerous. You think?
