Steve Martin’s tirade at a rental car counter in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” Harry Shearer’s zucchini incident in “This is Spinal Tap” and, of course, the farewell scene in “Casablanca” all make the rundown of great airport movie moments compiled by USA Today’s Barbara De Lollis.

Tons of great movie airport moments, but here’s one I didn’t see over on the USAT comment list:
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
Sonny demands a jet to fly him, Sal and the bank teller hostages out of the country. One of the slimy Feds drives them all to Kennedy Airport in the “limousine bus.” While they’re sitting on the tarmac waiting for the plane, the creepy Fed keeps telling Sal to point his rifle at the roof in case it accidentally goes off. Dog Day fans, I don’t have to tell you what happens next.
In addition to the classic airport finale, Dog Day also contains one of the great movie travel quotes.
Sonny: So what country do you want to go to?
Sal: Wyoming.
Sonny: Sal, Wyoming’s not a country.

Good call on Dog Day Afternoon, Tambourine Man. I think 12 Monkeys would have made a good addition to the list, too.

Another vote for “Airplane”: it begins in the opening credits, with the two recorded announcements getting into an argument about who gets to park in which zone.
And, yes, I do like gladiator movies.
