imageThe U.S. Department of Transportation reported 1,455 complaints about U.S. airlines in July, the highest number it has received in seven years. From a USA Today story: “Airlines blame the high number of July complaints on bad weather, packed planes, airport congestion and an aging air-traffic control system.” Hmm, maybe U.S. airlines can try solving their problems this way.

We made the trip to South Korea in May 2007 on Northwest Airlines.  While traveling from USA to South Korea the service was wonderful.  We were offered drinking water every 45 min to 1 hour.  Never had to ask for anything - it was always offered.
On the return trip it was quite different.  While in air for approx 12 hours (from Tokyo to Seattle) I was only offered water twice.  I had to keep getting up and asking for more water and then made to feel as if I was a bother.  I was very disappointed.

we checked in at the airport in Louisville with tickets to Glasgow. Checked our bags and took them to security for inspection. I looked at our bags and noticed that they were only checked to Philadelphia. Asked the agent and was told that we would have to recheck our bags in PHL. If we had not noticed this we would have gotten to our destination with no bags. Upon arrival at PHL was told that we had to take our bags to the international terminal. That is a 1mile walk on the outside of security. When we arrived at the international terminal were told that we could not check in at that time as they were only checking in Caribbean flights. Had to wait 3 hours for our check in. On the A/C service was anything from what was expected. flight crew was surly, A/C was dirty and the lavatories were not clean. Return was not much better.
This was the first time we had flown US AIR in about 15 years. I will make a concerted effort not to fly them again.

on a recent Continetal flight Chicago to Stockholm via Newark, my chicago flight was delayed, therefore we missed the connection and was protected on a flight connecting through Paris and into Stockholm via Air France, much later on the same day. We arrived but the luggage did not. We did the lost luggage report at the airport and were given some toiletries and a t-shirt.  Well we were going on a cruise the next day and our luggage never arrived.  Now we are at the mercy of the ground operator for the Orient Lines to find our luggage.  Now, it has been 3 days since I have seen my luggage.  First port of call was Riga, Latvia, no luggage there.  I recieved an email from home in Chicago saying someone from Riga is holding my luggage in lost and found. Well the luggage did not show up till 3 days later. Upon our return to Chicago, again via Newark on Continental, our flights were on time but luggage never made the flight.

Goat sacrifice might work, but it’s messy and time-consuming.  A recent infographic in the Onion revealed the true reasons for the record flight delays this summer:
