Have We Entered a New Age of American Travel?

Yes, says Conde Nast Traveler editor in chief Klara Glowczewska. She writes:

Today, Americans appear increasingly ready to reject wariness toward the rest of the world. Something new is afoot—a rediscovery of the sheer pleasure of being abroad and a resurgence of pride in being curious, culturally aware, peripatetic Americans.

Glowczewska believes President Obama and his family have played a role in this transition. “Some of the exuberance we are sensing may derive from a new First Family that is as enthusiastic a globe-traveling bunch as any in American history,” she writes. “They are a reassertion of a particularly appealing aspect of the American character—social energy.”

Americans are now culturally aware world travelers because of Obama? That’s a bit of a reach.

It probably more like people are tried of waiting for the recession to end, and are out there traveling.  As they read message boards like this one, they realize that people are pretty much the same wherevever you go., just like all those GIs stationed overseas do.  Many, many of them came home with foreign brides.

There is something life changing about setting something new afoot. Traveling abroad and traveling around the world gives Americans a sense of accomplishment.

Curiousity is what sets and paves the way to new inventions. Traveling gives people new ideas, new reasons to change the world they live in. Fresh perspectives, culture changes and just the simple idea that there is something more out there, is all the reason to pursue travel.

Americans sit on great ideas for years before inventing the very thing that makes them purposeful. These are the travelers that are looking for the very thing that help puts all the puzzle peices together, in order to fulfill their dreams.

Yes, we have entered a new age of American travel.

I see it.
