He’s Got Reservations About Anthony Bourdain’s Ad

Rolf Potts has a problem with the magazine ad for Anthony Bourdain’s new show on the Travel Channel, Without Reservations. The ad features the tagline, “Be a Traveler, Not a Tourist.” Potts writes in his weblog: “[T]o imply that one can shed the ‘tourist’ mantle by watching a television show is positively idiotic.” See here for the offending ad and the rest of his analysis.

Okay,
Your pissed at Tony because he is “giving away” the good spots that tourists don’t know about.
Stop being selfish!
The ad is good for tourism!

With disgust we watched your recent program about Argentina. Although we reside in USA for 43 years and we love this country we are still proud of our heritage and all that Argentina has to offer to the world. The opera house, the renowned Teatro Colon, one of the best of the world compared to La Scala de Milan. Their museums, theaters, Recoleta, Puerto Madero with the fanciest restaurants. Their wide avenues with beautiful fountains and statues, great first class hotels were european travelers expend their vacations. The avenue 9 de Julio, the widest in the world. San Isidro, the Delta in Tigre. The Iguazu falls larger than Niagara falls. Lake Nahuel Huapi and Llao Llao Hotel in Bariloche. Not to mentioned the best dress men and women that wouldn’t dare go to the theater wearing tennis shoes. “ALL THESE BUT YOU ONLY SHOWED A “VILLA MISERIA”, A PLACE WERE ALL THE ILEGAL ALIENS AND CRIMINALS LIVE!!!! IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU SHOWED THE WORST OF A COUNTRY BUT NOT ITS BEAUTY!!!! We want to add that we are also upset abouy Samantha Brown’s show. It’s funny.. yesterday she showed hotels in San Francisco, the best around Market street and Union Square but very conviniently didn’t show the homeless and drunks camping and begging in the streets. Please if you do a show about LA and California do not forget to show Santa Ana, Watts and east LA besides showing Newport and Beverly Hills.
We would like a response to this letter.
Thank you very much
