Mayflower Hotel Gift Shop Cashing in on Spitzer Scandal

Coffee mugs are selling out. Mayflower mints are going by the case. And “[t]here has been a rush on the Mayflower’s luxuriously soft white terry-cloth bathrobes,” writes Ylan Q. Mui in the Washington Post. The price tag on those robes: $69.99. Ouch.

Some people, though, just can’t—or won’t—spend their money on gift shop goods. They prefer to steal. A hot item at five-finger discount: The numbers off the door of Room 871—the now infamous room.

Duh! Guess what every hotel needs a celeb sex scandal to give a boost to its reputation and sales. This is something I find a bit hard to stomach actually. Every infamous critter in the last five years has actually benefited with million dollar book deals after doing something worthy of punishment…
