The title: “Monkey and Me: China and the Journey to the West.” The genre-hopping writer has turned to travel writing in part because, as he tells Splash Page, he’s “always loved travel books.” He continues:

There’s something fun about watching someone get into trouble and having awful disasters that makes you happen [sic] when you read it. And I thought, ‘I could be that person getting into trouble and having those disasters! And it would be funny! I’m very good at disasters.

William Morrow will publish “Monkey and Me” in fall 2009.

Finally someone understands what travel books should be about.  Here’s wishing Gaiman lots of entertaining disasters.

This should be brilliant. Bill Bryson made a whole writing career out of having disasters, and Neil Gaiman’s a better writer… :-)
